Take heed; those who doubt you can derail you.
Consider this:
Each of us has a limited way of seeing the world, a fairly finite number of frames-of-reference through which to make sense of reality. These frames of reference ultimately determine what we take to be true, what we take to be false, and what we consider to be possible...and therefore whether these things are worth pursuing.
“When someone says you can't, what they're saying is, "I don't possess the frame-of-reference that allows me to see that what you're saying is possible.”
That's why I love to read. To me, it's a cheat-sheet into other people's frames of reference; other possibilities, other ways of overcoming obstacles and achieving one's dreams.
“If you don't yet believe it's possible, find someone who does - and learn to see the world through their eyes.”
I used to get angry when people said I couldn't do a given thing. I don't anymore, after having spent some time thinking about it.
When someone says you can't, what they're saying is, "I don't possess the frame-of-reference that allows me to see that what you're saying is possible."
If you really believe what they're saying is true, talk to someone, read a book or listen to a podcast: sooner or later you'll find a paradigm that proves the point I'm trying to make - whether you believe something is possible (and therefore whether you'll pursue it) begins by opening the window of possibility in the mind.
If you don't yet believe it's possible, find someone who does - and learn to see the world through their eyes.
